Holly Leaves Home Learning - July 2021
Hello to all our Holly Leaves children who are currently home learning. I hope you and your family members are all OK and I am very much missing you in school.
This week the Reception phonics group are completing Phase 3 and our Year Ones are finishing off Phase 4 so I will add learning linked to these. There will also be some Guided Reading.
If you need to contact me you can do so by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be checking it throughout the day.
Thursday 15th July 2021
Good morning to all our Holly Leaves home learners. I hope you are all doing well.
This morning I have added some phonics for you. Reception children, today we are learning ure. Year One, we are finishing off Phase 4 over the next few days and today are looking at some of the tricky words we have learnt.
Thursday is our Guided Reading morning so I have added Zoom to the Moon. Please read it to an adult just like we would do in Guided Reading. Then can you answer the questions? Remember to use the text to help you to answer the questions. Mums, Dads and Grandparents the answers are on the second page of the document. Please email the completed activity over to me on our class email so I can take a look and it would be lovely to hear how you are all doing!
Friday 11th June 2021
Good morning everyone! Well done and thank you to all those children who sent me in their writing and maths yesterday - I am very proud of you for the hard work you put in.
To start our Friday I have added a link to another picture for you to write a sentence/sentences about please. It’s an interesting and funny picture which I think you will like! It will help you to think about the following questions:
1. Who is in the picture?
2. What is happening?
3. Why is this happening?
4. Where is it?
5. When is it happening?
Remember to have a capital letter at the start of your sentences and a full stop at the end. If you want to be really impressive you could use an exclamation mark (!) or ask a question (?) for your sentence. If you can use any of your fabulous adjectives (describing words) please do.
I am excited about reading your sentences. Please email a picture of your sentence to me at the class email address email@example.com
Today is Forest School day so if you can get outside and have fun please do. In school we are going to be doing the 30 Days of Wild Challenge. Grown-ups, I have added a link to sign up for this below as you may wish to sign up as a family. When you do sign up you can download lots of information including an activity sheet.
As part of the challenge today could you:
1. Follow a bumble bee and look closely at what it is doing. Do not try and touch it as bees sting.
2. Go on a bug hunt.
3. Exercise outside.
Please send any pictures to our class email address.
Have a lovely day everyone and a great weekend.
Thursday 10th June 2021
To start the day, just as we have been doing this week, I have added a link to an interesting picture for you to write about. Be brave and don't be afraid to write. I will be very proud of each of your efforts. There is no right or wrong - please just all do your best! You have been trying so hard with it. If you can write more than one sentence please do. Remember to include your capital letter and full stop. Please send me pictures of your work to the Holly Leaves email so I can give feedback and award your efforts!
Parents, this is something we have only started this week to encourage children to write and be brave. Please encourage your child to do this independently as the more they do this the easier writing will be for them. It will help them to say the sentence first and then possibly record it. Then as they write they can segment the sounds. I am not expecting perfect spellings and it will make me super happy to see children who are using the phonics we have learnt so far to spell their words. I would, of course, love to see their tricky words (such as the, a, to, no, go, he, she, we, be) spelt correctly though as we have been learning them. Once complete please could you ask your child/children what they have written and write it below their writing in a different colour.
Then we will have maths. Reception - in maths this week we have been doing all about doubling. Please watch the video and then have fun creating your 'doubling butterflies'. Can you create number sentences too for your butterfly? I will be very impressed if you can. Once again, please send pictures.
Year 1 - in your maths we have just started a new topic, place value to 50. Please watch the video and then complete the worksheet which asks you to match the ten frame pictures to the correct numeral. It says on the activity to cut them out, but I am happy for your child to draw lines between them.
In phonics we have two different groups. Group 1 is Reception children. Group 2 is Year 1 and some Reception children. Your child should know which group they are in but if unsure please email me so I can help.
Please email all work completed to the Holly Leaves email so I can reward everyone's efforts and give help if needed! Thanks everyone.
