Friday 1st April 2022
Good morning everyone and happy Friday! Thank you to everyone who emailed in pictures of home learning yesterday. It was fabulous to see how you are getting on!

Today we have added a video for each phonics group. In the links below we have also included a link for parents and carers which gives more information on our phonics scheme, the sounds we learn and letter formation. We have also added some maths games for each year group. In addition, please could you listen to your child read and record on GoRead if you can. Finally, please continue with the writing activity from yesterday. If this is tricky for your child please practise writing their name with them.

Thank you everyone for your support. Any pictures of activities or any questions can be emailed to hollyleaves@littledean.gloucs.sch.uk

Have a lovely Friday and enjoy the weekend.

Thursday 31st March 2022
Good morning Holly Leaves children and your families!

Yesterday, the children really impressed me with how they are getting on with their phonics. They have now learnt around 50 sounds which they are using in both their reading and writing. Today we have added a phonics video for them to watch and take part in. We have also added information for parents and carers about phonics - this includes videos of the sounds (phonemes) and letter formation guidance.

Please could your child also share their reading book with you - this can be recorded on the GoRead app. If anyone is having problems accessing their child/children's GoRead account please email the class email address hollyleaves@littledean.gloucs.sch.uk and we will try to help. It is really useful to have all their reading recorded on there as we use this in school to record their Guided Reading and when they read to an adult. It also means we can reward bonus gems to children which they love!

We have also included links below to some maths games which will help your child develop their maths knowledge in a fun way.

Finally, for the next two days, we would love it if your child/children could do some writing. At school we are working towards every child using their phonics knowledge to write words and sentences. This week in class we have been writing lists and it is so exciting to see so many children beginning to write independently and enjoy what they are doing! Please could your child choose from the following options:

  • Write the shopping list for the weekend.
  • Design a model and label it.
  • If they have a birthday coming up they could write a birthday list.
  • Write a diary of the next few days.
With their writing we are not looking for the most perfect spelling yet and want them to use the phonics sounds they have learnt as they become independent, confident writers.

Please send in any photos of activities to our Holly Leaves email address and bring in any writing in their book bags when they return to school.

Thanks everyone. Any worries please just email. Hopefully the sunshine will last!
